Volunteer Orientation

Our 90-minute volunteer orientation covers an introduction to FOCD, a brief explanation of U.S. immigration detention, and step-by-step guidance on how to visit detainees. Volunteers are able to start visiting upon completion of orientation.

Leadership Team Meeting

Our Leadership Team consists of nine people. Made of Tapestry (sponsoring organization) members, affiliate organization representatives, and community members. Leadership Team duties includes setting policies for FOCD, responding to any issues and concerns, and other organizational duties. All volunteers and community members are welcome to attend.

Debrief Meeting

Our volunteer debriefs are a great opportunity to meet other like-minded volunteers. Volunteers are able to discuss their experiences, ask questions, share success stories and challenges, and provide support to one another. Topics covered include setting boundaries, self care, lessons learnt, deportations, and managing the challenges of the immigration system. We highly recommend volunteers to attend.

Transition Program Orientation

This event is open to current FOCD volunteers only (people who have attended our Volunteer Visitation Program Orientation). We highly recommend this orientation to FOCD volunteers who have been curious about what our Transition Program does; volunteers who want to learn more about what happens to detainees once they are released; volunteers who want to share information about our Transition Program with the detainee/s they are visiting; and volunteers who have an interest in joining our Transition Program team.
